When was the last time you thought about what you have to be grateful for? When was the last time you actually told yourself "I'm really grateful for (something in my life)"?

The temptation is to answer that you don’t have anything to be grateful for. Oh, come on ...! This isn’t going to be true at all, there will always be a few things that you can be thankful for having.

You are reading this article on some sort of electronic device and you have access to the internet. You have your vision to read it or you have your hearing to listen to it. Immediately, you have amazing reasons to feel grateful.

Your health is one, you should be glad that you wake up each morning ready and able to face the day. Some people struggle physically to do this. They may need help to get out of bed.

If you have a job, you should, of course, be grateful for it, even if it is one that you don’t like. The reality is that everyone has to do things that don't want to or like in life.

My parents are still alive and well. I'm so grateful for this. When I think about how grateful I am they are both still here, it makes me want to call them for a chat. This is what gratitude does. It helps us make more positive decisions.

It is very easy to fall into the pattern of not being happy, almost to the point of getting depressed.

Dwelling on what you don’t have is disastrous for our mental wellbeing.

If there is something that you want out of your life, it is up to you to go out there and get it. If you are not in a relationship why not? Be honest here, you can’t expect to meet someone if you stay hidden at home all the time.

Negative thinking is not healthy at all and can lead to severe depression and worse.

I've heard it said that we must learn how to swap negative thoughts for more positive ones. However, I don't agree this is always a good idea. Why? Because if you are angry, you should let yourself be angry. That angry feeling will go away. I do believe it's a good idea to think of other things if you are angry. This is when gratitude comes into play. An example is if there is a long queue for something. You're in a rush. There's nothing you can do but wait. Rather than get angry, could you use the time to do or think about something? You could write a little hello text to someone who you are grateful to have in your life. You could think of all the things you are queuing up to buy and be grateful that can buy them.

Each morning when you get up to remind yourself of at least one thing that you are grateful for. It can also be helpful to use positive affirmations to help you stay in a positive mindset.

Gratitude in the morning = an awesome day

Remember it is your choice and no one is stopping you from making changes to your life.
